Calvary's Pastoral Staff, 2019-2020

The Rev. Lori A. Cornell (Pastor Lori) has served as an ordained minister for over twenty years. She has served Calvary Lutheran as pastor since September 2001. Prior to her call to Calvary, Lori was associate pastor at Christ Lutheran Church in Lakewood, Washington. She graduated with honors from Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in 1993, and in 2009 she received a Louisville Sabbatical Grant to study how the church might build a new relationship with Young Adults and newcomers to the faith in the 21st century. With that grant she traveled with her family to Greece, Turkey, and Israel, and spent time in reading and reflection afterward. Lori has two adult daughters, who delight and surprise her, and instruct her for pastoral ministry.
Pastor Lori’s priorities for ministry include empowering and equipping leaders for ministry, strengthening the church to respond to a changing world, and preaching and teaching the good news that we humans don’t have to do anything to impress God, since God has already impressed his love on our hearts in Jesus the Christ.
Every year for the past 5 years, Calvary has hosted an Intern Pastor. For 2019-2020, this is Melissa Anderson Trust. Melissa attended Luther Seminary in St. Paul Minnesota with a focus on Hebrew and the Old Testament. She enjoys finding law and gospel in the Old Testament, discovering how the Holy Spirit is creating faith, and experiencing the Word transformed so that more people can receive it.
